Find the exact area of a rational curve

Find the exact area of the region bounded by y=xx+3y=\frac{x}{x+3}, the xx-axis, and the lines x=−1x=-1 and x=2x=2.

CJC · Lecture · Example 8

The Teacher adds the vertical asymptote, both bounding lines, shading below/above the axis and the split negative-plus-positive integrals. These are integrated into the sketch, working and diagram.

Divide the rational expression before integrating and keep exact logarithms through the endpoint calculation.
