Write the modulus curve piecewise before integrating

Without using a calculator, find the area of the region bounded by f(x)=∣x2−4∣f(x)=|x^2-4|, the xx-axis and the lines x=0x=0 and x=3x=3.

CJC · Lecture · Example 9

The Teacher explicitly instructs that the modulus curve must be written as a piecewise function; the source already prints both the sign test and equivalent x ranges. Both forms are retained in the first step.

The Teacher fills the two-integral setup and shades the correct region, with height 4 and boundary 3. Text extraction drops the modulus bars, so the prompt was checked directly against both rendered pages.
