A hint to get started

Use multiplicity to distinguish crossings and contacts

Sketch the following curves, indicating clearly the coordinates of any intersections with the axes and turning points:

(a) y=(x+1)(x−1)4y=(x+1)(x-1)^4.

(b) y=(x+1)2(x−1)3y=(x+1)^2(x-1)^3.

Start with the zero factors and their multiplicities. Then classify stationary points by the derivative sign on both sides.
