Worked solution

Enter a system and interpret a unique calculator solution

Solve Example 1(b) using a graphing calculator: x+y+z=6x+y+z=6, x+2y+z=8x+2y+z=8, 2x+y+z=72x+y+z=7.

Choose the simultaneous-equation solver

The printed workflow opens apps, chooses [4:PlySmlt2], then [2: SIMULTANEOUS EQN SOLVER]. Choose 3 equations and 3 unknowns, then press graph for NEXT. Its configuration screen also shows AUTO, NORMAL, FLOAT and DEGREE selected; the essential dimensions for this system are 3 by 3. These are the source device’s labels and menu numbering.

Enter all coefficients in order

Keep columns in the order x,y,zx,y,z, then the right-hand constant. The displayed input is the augmented matrix below; enter every row, including all signs and constants. CLEAR deletes all entries in the matrix.

[111612182117].\left[\begin{array}{ccc|c}1&1&1&6\\1&2&1&8\\2&1&1&7\end{array}\right].

Solve and return to the original variables

Press graph for SOLVE. The printed output is x=1x=1, y=2y=2, z=3z=3. MAIN returns to the main menu; MODE returns to simultaneous-equation solver mode; F◀▶D converts fractions to decimals and vice versa. The screenshots also show LOAD on the entry screen and SYSM/STORE on the result screen. Verify the mathematical output: 1+2+3=61+2+3=6, 1+2(2)+3=81+2(2)+3=8, 2(1)+2+3=72(1)+2+3=7.

Common mistakes

A calculator solves the system entered. A swapped column, missing zero or wrong constant creates a different system.

Solution notes

Student and Teacher copies compared at PDF pages 4, 5, printed pages 164, 165. No marks are printed.

This deliberately repeats Example 1(b) with a different required method. It remains a separate printed lecture identity; it does not replace or duplicate an original-bank record. The five source screens are described in the working, not simulated as an installed calculator.
