Compare parts with an arctangent substitution algebraically

The use of a graphing calculator is not allowed in this question.

(i) By using integration by parts, find ∫xtan⁡−1x dx\displaystyle\int x\tan^{-1}x\,dx. marks

(ii) Find ddθ(tan⁡2θ)\dfrac d{d\theta}(\tan^2\theta). Hence use the substitution θ=tan⁡−1x\theta=\tan^{-1}x to find ∫xtan⁡−1x dx\displaystyle\int x\tan^{-1}x\,dx. marks

(iii) Show algebraically that your answers to parts (i) and (ii) differ by a constant. mark
