Worked solution

Change a summation range with two partial sums

Given ∑r=1nr(r+2)=n(n+1)(2n+7)/6\sum_{r=1}^nr(r+2)=n(n+1)(2n+7)/6, find ∑r=n2nr(r+2)\sum_{r=n}^{2n}r(r+2).

Answer

n(n+1)(14n+19)/6n(n+1)(14n+19)/6.

Subtract through n − 1, not n

Let F(m)=m(m+1)(2m+7)/6F(m)=m(m+1)(2m+7)/6. The required sum is F(2n)−F(n−1)F(2n)-F(n-1), retaining the term at r=nr=n.

How did this part go?

Simplify the polynomial

F(2n)−F(n−1)=n6[2(2n+1)(4n+7)−(n−1)(2n+5)]=n6(14n2+33n+19)=n(n+1)(14n+19)6F(2n)-F(n-1)=\dfrac n6[2(2n+1)(4n+7)-(n-1)(2n+5)]=\dfrac n6(14n^2+33n+19)=\dfrac{n(n+1)(14n+19)}6.

Common mistakes

Subtracting F(n) would remove the first term you need.
