A hint to get started

Use a restricted quadratic, reflection and a fixed-point condition

The function ff is defined by f:x↦(ax+b)2f:x\mapsto(ax+b)^2, x∈Rx\in\mathbb R, x≥−bax\geq-\dfrac ba where aa and bb are positive constants.

(i) Show that f−1f^{-1} exists. marks

(ii) State the geometrical relationship between the graphs of ff and f−1f^{-1}. Given that the graphs of ff and f−1f^{-1} intersect, show that a≤14ba\leq\dfrac1{4b}. marks

(iii) Show that the composite function ffff is defined. marks

(iv) Solve the equation ff(2)=b2ff(2)=b^2. marks
