Read sine, cosine and tangent graphs

Connect domains, ranges, periods, symmetry and excluded tangent inputs.

Read the three trigonometric function graphs

Choose one function at a time. Read its range and one full period, then distinguish a zero from an excluded input: tangent has gaps at its poles.

The source plots each function over [−2π,2π][-2\pi,2\pi]; their domains extend beyond that displayed window.

sinx

Real domain: All real x

Range: [−1,1][-1,1]

Period: 2π2\pi

Symmetry and continuity: Odd: sin⁡(−x)=−sin⁡x\sin(-x)=-\sin x; continuous

cosx

Real domain: All real x

Range: [−1,1][-1,1]

Period: 2π2\pi

Symmetry and continuity: Even: cos⁡(−x)=cos⁡x\cos(-x)=\cos x; continuous

tanx

Real domain: x≠π/2+kπx\ne\pi/2+k\pi, integer k

Range: All real values

Period: π\pi

Symmetry and continuity: Odd: tan⁡(−x)=−tan⁡x\tan(-x)=-\tan x; continuous on each interval between its poles

The original tangent range row says “for all real x”, but the same table explicitly excludes x=±π/2,±3π/2,±5π/2,…x=\pm\pi/2,\pm3\pi/2,\pm5\pi/2,\ldots. The domain above makes that qualification consistent. The tangent graph redraw preserves separate branches and asymptotes rather than joining across the poles.
